Creative Love Bugs and More!

Because of the snow days many classes were off a bit on the rotations with projects. To simplify things and give the other students the needed time to finish projects some of the 2nd, 1st and Kindergarten classes got to learn how to cut out symmetrical hearts.  Then they got really creative turning them into love bugs and other things their creative minds could come up with. Here are a few pictures I was able to snap of the kindergarteners making their love bugs. I was VERY impressed with what they came up with and with their ability to to start to grasp then many master how to draw and cut out these symmetrical hearts.

Lovely Love Birds

Kindergarteners loved making their love birds with many hearts. Many learned for the first time how to draw a heart. When repeating the hearts they also created rhythm a principle of design.  They made a connection to rhythm in music and the rhythm of their heart beat.   They were encouraged to try to color each touching shape with a different color.  They looked at the color-wheel and tried combining some related colors (colors next to one another on the color-wheel) to make new colors with watercolor crayons. They loved experiencing these new materials that turn to paint when brushed over with water.  Some experimented more then others with color combinations and in the end there was some great variety.  They also discovered later that water-based markers also turn to paint when they brushed water over their love notes written in the background sky.
